The Federal Savings Bank Chairman and CEO Steve Calk Named an EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2017 Award Finalist in the Midwest

CHICAGO (May 3, 2017) – The Federal Savings Bank (TFSB) is proud to announce that Ernst & Young, LLP (EY) named Steve Calk, the Bank’s chairman and CEO, as a finalist for the Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2017 Award in the Midwest. The awards program, which is celebrating its 31st year, recognizes entrepreneurs who are excelling in areas such as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. Calk was selected as a top entrepreneur finalist by a panel of independent judges. Award winners will be announced at a special gala event on June 21 in Chicago.

“I am honored to be selected as a finalist for this distinguished Entrepreneur Of The Year Award,” said Steve Calk, chairman and CEO of The Federal Savings Bank. “I work with an incredible team of talented and dedicated individuals who have contributed to the Bank’s ongoing success. I am so proud of the work that we do to help homeowners and small business owners achieve their dreams.”

Calk’s vision for The Federal Savings Bank began when he served in the Army as a combat tactical helicopter pilot. During that time, he also worked as a part-time mortgage loan officer. He witnessed how difficult it was for hard-working individuals to get home loans and wanted to help them achieve the American Dream. He studied every aspect of the mortgage business, and developed a business plan, focusing on supporting veteran and first-time home buyers.

Calk started the business as a local, family-run, independent mortgage bank that has continued to evolve during the last 22 years. Given changes in government regulation and a desire to offer more resources to customers, he founded TFSB in 2011 and transitioned the business. TFSB has a continued focus on home lending, with the addition of broader resources.

Now Calk, who exemplifies leadership in banking, runs one of the largest privately held federally chartered Banks in the country with 23 offices nationwide and nearly 1,000 employees. The Bank’s strong growth is demonstrated through its origination of $70 million in loan volume in 2011 and more than $4 billion in loans in 2016.

Now in its 31st year, the Entrepreneur of the Year program has expanded to recognize business leaders in over 145 cities and more than 60 countries throughout the world. The Midwest program includes companies based in Illinois and Wisconsin. Collectively, this year’s finalists generated nearly $8.1 billion in revenue and they employed 18,000 people by the end of 2016.

Regional award winners are eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur Of The Year National competition. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the Entrepreneur Of The Year National Overall Award winner, will be announced at the Entrepreneur Of The Year National Awards gala in Palm Springs, California, on November 18, 2017. The awards are the culminating event of the Strategic Growth ForumTM, the nation’s most prestigious gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies. The Entrepreneur Of The Year Overall Award winner then moves on to compete for the World Entrepreneur Of The Year Award in Monaco in June

2018.
