New York DE Conventional Underwriter

The Federal Savings Bank is seeking an experienced residential Mortgage Underwriter with Conventional and FHA experience to join our top notch operations team in our New York, NY office. (This is NOT a remote position). We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible, so apply today!


  • 2 year college degree or commensurate military or mortgage experience
  • Minimum 3 years underwriting experience
  • 1 + years of Government Underwriting experience
  • 2 + years of Conventional Underwriting experience
  • Direct Endorsement (DE) preferred, not required
  • Thorough understanding of agency guidelines, products and recent regulatory change
  • Thorough understanding of both personal and business financial analysis, complex tax returns
  • Thorough understanding of appraisal underwriting
  • Experience with multiple investors and guidelines
  • FHA purchase, refinance, and streamline programs
  • Knowledge of Jumbo and Condo programs
  • FNMA / FHLMC guidelines
  • Advanced proficiency with DU/LP
  • Ability to make timely and accurate decisions
  • Strong analytical and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • High attention to detail
  • Favorable credit and background
  • Experience with Encompass software a plus
  • Razor sharp wit and a wicked sense of humor (not necessarily a requirement...but we can dream right?)

  • Underwrite conventional conforming, non-conforming, FHA, and portfolio loans in a paperless environment, for a national bank and mortgage lender
  • Specialize in FHA loan underwriting (Must have Direct Endorsement)
  • Specialize in Conventional loan underwriting
  • Effectively communicate with bankers, analysts, closers, investors and auditors
  • Coordinate underwriting responsibilities with processing and closing departments
  • Staying up to date agency guidelines, products and recent regulatory changes
  • Daily use of DU/LP
  • All retail loan originations underwritten to agency and Investor guidelines
