Chicago Forensic Mortgage Underwriter

The Federal Savings Bank is looking for a Forensic Mortgage Underwriter to investigate high risk and potentially fraudulent mortgage loans. The position will be based out of the Chicago corporate office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for development and execution of the forensic auditing program according to established policies and guidelines. Must collaborate with underwriting, quality control and management to define and enhance the program. The position will require extensive investigation and risk analysis upon targeted loans and internal fraud requests. Identify and escalate, as appropriate, trends and/or behaviors that indicate mortgage fraud or intentional misrepresentation. Keep abreast of industry trends in underwriting with a focus on automation and innovation..

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete forensic auditing per management request, targeted categories and employee referrals in a timely and professional manner
  • Identify and report red flags or areas of patterned risk
  • Operate AllRegs, Lexis Nexis and other online tools to gather data for research
  • Provide summary reports of analysis, resource materials utilized and recommendation on mitigation of risk or fraudulent behavior
  • Coordinate with underwriting monthly for training and trending investor red flags
  • Additional responsibilities may apply as required by the QC Department Manager

Job Requirements

  • 2 year college degree
  • Must have 3+ years of experience as a high volume mortgage underwriter
  • Must have 1+ year(s) of experience in quality control fraud investigation / forensic auditing
  • Should have prior operational experience working with direct lenders and secondary investors
  • Must have strong knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA & USDA lending
  • Extensive knowledge of Mortgage Sales and Operations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Highly analytical with inductive and deductive reasoning capabilities
  • Excellent time management and inventory anticipation skills
  • Must have a friendly and outgoing personality for customer service
  • Competent use in AllRegs
  • Experience with Encompass software is a plus
  • Experience with Lexis Nexis, Corelogic Watch Suite and LoanSafe Connect is a plus
