Arizona DE/SAR Mortgage Underwriter

The Federal Savings Bank is currently seeking an experienced residential Mortgage Underwriter with DE/SAR/LAPP certifications to work in our Scottsdale, AZ office.


  • 2 year college degree or commensurate military or mortgage experience
  • Minimum 3 years underwriting experience
  • 2 + years of recent Government Underwriting experience
  • 2 + years of Conventional Underwriting experience
  • Direct Endorsement (DE) Required
  • SAR Required
  • Thorough understanding of agency guidelines, products and recent regulatory change
  • Thorough understanding of both personal and business financial analysis, complex tax returns
  • Thorough understanding of appraisal underwriting
  • Experience with multiple investors and guidelines
  • FHA purchase, refinance, and streamline programs
  • Knowledge of Jumbo and Condo programs
  • Knowledge of Builder/New Construction loans
  • FNMA / FHLMC guidelines
  • Advanced proficiency with DU/LP
  • Ability to make timely and accurate decisions
  • Strong analytical and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • High attention to detail
  • Favorable credit and background
  • Experience with Encompass software a plus
  • Razor sharp wit and a wicked sense of humor (not necessarily a requirement...but we can dream right?)

  • Underwrite mostly purchase conventional conforming, non-conforming, FHA, VA and portfolio loans in a paperless environment, for a national bank and mortgage lender
  • Specialize in FHA loan underwriting (Must have Direct Endorsement)
  • Specialize in VA loan underwriting (Must have SAR/LAPP)
  • Conventional & Jumbo loan underwriting
  • Effectively communicate with bankers, analysts, closers, investors and auditors
  • Coordinate underwriting responsibilities with processing and closing departments
  • Staying up to date agency guidelines, products and recent regulatory changes
  • Daily use of DU/LP
  • All retail loan originations underwritten to agency and Investor guidelines/span>
